Professor Richard Ernst, recipient of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1991, presented two lectures at UKZN campuses during his two-week whirlwind tour of South African universities.

Dr Alistair McCormick, who was awarded his PhD degree from UKZN in 2008, did the University proud by winning the South African Association of Botanists (SAAB) Bronze Medal for producing the best Plant Science PhD Thesis in South Africa.

The possibility of integrating the knowledge of indigenous Zulu medicinal plants in the teaching of chemistry is under investigation by Ms Deshi Moodley, a UKZN Science Education lecturer at the Faculty of Education.
